Railway Board Stream Options for CSE Recruited Officers Since 2022 | Latest Jobs Update

Railway Board Stream Options offer to CSE-Recruited Officers for IRMS (2022-2024)

Railway Board stream options for CSE officers now give flexibility to probationers joining the Indian Railway Management Service (IRMS). Officers recruited through the Civil Services Examination (CSE) in 2022, 2023, and 2024 can choose from three streams: Traffic, Accounts, and Personnel.

Railway Board Announces Stream Options for CSE-Recruited IRMS Officers (2022-2024)

Why This Change Matters

The Railway Board introduced this decision after reviewing the 2019 recruitment reform. That reform merged eight Group A services into a single cadre called IRMS. Two batches joined in 2022 and 2023, and the third batch is under recruitment through CSE 2024.

Return to Pre-2019 Pattern

The Ministry of Railways issued a Gazette notification on October 9, 2024. From 2025 onwards, recruitment will follow the pre-2019 pattern. Officers will join eight IRMS sub-cadres through both CSE and Engineering Services Examination (ESE), as per the amended Recruitment Rules (RRs).

How Stream Allocation Works

The Railway Board directed the Director General of the Indian Railway Institute of Transport Management (IRITM) to allocate sub-cadres based on probationers’ choices. The three available sub-cadres are:

  • IRMS (Traffic)
  • IRMS (Personnel)
  • IRMS (Accounts)

Background of IRMS Formation

Before 2019, the Indian Railway Personnel Service (IRPS)Indian Railway Accounts Service (IRAS), and Indian Railway Traffic Service (IRTS) were recruited through CSE, while five technical services like IRSSE, IRSEE, IRSME, IRSS, and IRES were recruited through ESE. The 2019 reform merged these into IRMS to streamline management and operations.
